Janus, Roman god of time, often pictured with two faces, sometimes called "e Bifronte"
Fishburn and Hughes: "In Roman mythology the two-faced God of doorways who was able to observe both the exterior and interior of private houses and the entrance and exit of public buildings. He thus became the god of departure and return and of the sun's rising and setting, and so was the special patron of all beginnings.
