D'Annunzio, Gabriele

Fishburn and Hughes: "(1864-1938) An Italian poet, novelist and playwright. D'Annunzio's poetry, characterized by sensual language and neo-classical imagery, shows the influence of the Symbolist movement in Italy. He was an admirer of Nietzsche and exemplified the concept of the 'Superman' and the Dionysiac interpretation of human destiny. D'Annunzio was an eccentric and a showman with a fondness for extravagant language." (55)
