Fishburn and Hughes: The army of General San Martín which in January 1817 crossed the Andes from Mendoza, a province in western Argentina, to Chile. Made up of two divisions, it consisted of 4,000 soldiers, 1,400 auxiliaries, 2,400 animals, 18 cannon and other artillery.
