Biography
Borges family (including the maternal grandmother) leaves for Europe on 3 February 1914 on a German ship, the Sierra Nevada. Arrival in Geneva in April, where they move into an apartment at 17 rue Malagnou (now 9 rue Ferdinand Hodler). Borges begins his studies at the Collège Calvin. Beginning of friendship with Maurice Abramowicz and Simon Jichlinski.
Historical Context
Death of Saenz Peña; Victorino de la Plaza becomes president. Beginning of World War I: Argentina maintains neutrality in the conflict.

Leaves Buenos Aires in February. 17 rue Malagnou, Geneva from April on.
