Crime fiction in collaboration with Bioy Casares. Presents El jardín de senderos que se bifurcan for the Premio Nacional de Literatura; when it is not awarded the prize Sur publishes a special issue on Borges.

Historical Context

President  Ortiz resigns and Castillo becomes president. Foreign Ministers of the Americas meet in Rio de Janeiro, where the U.S. seeks support against the Axis. Argentina opposes US agenda and maintains neutrality. The US embassy increases contacts with pro-democracy local opposition groups. Radical Party leaders Marcelo T. de Alvear and Roberto Ortiz die.  Former president and conservative leader  Justo dies.
