Publishes Ficciones, his most influential collection of stories; it wins the Gran Premio de Honor from the Sociedad Argentina de Escritores. Some stories are translated to French by Roger Caillois. Moves with his mother to an apartment at Maipú 994 where he will live for most of the rest of his life.

Borges's father, Jorge Guillermo Borges Haslam, dies on 24 February 1938. Borges begins working at the Miguel Cané Library in Almagro Sur; he lives with his mother, sister and brother-in-law at Anchorena 1972. Accident on 24 December 1938 results in septicemia.
